Koyaanisqatsi at 1552% Speed

Video description:

Video: Koyaanisqatsi (1982) at 1552% speed. (The year 1552 marks the publication of “A Short Account of the Destruction of the Indies,” an account of the mistreatment of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas)

Audio: “The Holy Egoism of Genius,” from the 1999 Art of Noise album The Seduction of Claude Debussy.

*I have only the highest respect for Godfrey Reggio and Philip Glass (as well as The Art of Noise). This experiment is not meant in any way to diminish the emotional and atmospheric power of the original film, and I highly recommend anyone who has not seen it to do so before viewing this.

Sacred Solstice and a Wonderful Winter, Fellow Space Voyagers!

It may seem extra dark right now,
but everything is erupting with radiance
when we look at the universe through the lens of the mind…
and bursting with love
when we let our heart lights shine.

Sees the sun going down,
And the eyes in his head,
See the world spinning ’round.

O Ferrofluid Fortuna!

Limitless lilting landscapes of light
irridescently emerging, elegantly inverting and mellifluently merging.

Mesophase geometries reveal resonant chromatic complements
interlaced in magnetic dream spirals.

Prismatic tides and horizons bursting with beauty
glimpsed behind the ethereal veils of time.

"Deadly Monopolies": Bio-colonialsm and medical corporatism: organism, gene and human tissue patents.

Watch or listen to the 45 minute interview here.

From Democracy Now:

One of the major themes raised by the Occupy movement is the increasing power of large corporations over more and more aspects of our lives. We spend the hour looking into the issue of the corporate control of life itself. Our guest, Harriet Washington, is a medical ethicist and has just published a book that examines the extent to which what she calls the medical-industrial complex has come to control human life. In the past 30 years, more than 40,000 patents have been granted on genes alone—many more patents are pending. Washington argues that the biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies patenting these genes are more concerned with profit than with the health or medical needs of patients. Her new book is called “Deadly Monopolies: The Shocking Corporate Takeover of Life Itself—And the Consequences for Your Health and Our Medical Future.”
