Color me skeptical, although he has a good look going on, and I hope he makes some $ out of the white folk with his shtick.

Yeah, I think that part just got lost in translation. Or perhaps just another mythologist trying to use scientific terms sloppily. But I don’t think that means we should discard everything the mythologist is trying to communicate.

I think what he meant [i.e. what I understood] is that it’s just a date, with no more / less significance than any other new year, such as our 1999 / 2000. We give these things meaning, and why not? That’s our role in this universe.

Totally! We also all love good party and it makes it that much better when everyone is celebrating something specific. (birthday, new year, equinox, harvest, wedding, graduation, anniversary, etc. etc.)
